Responsibility details are not available.
This marking set in 1:35 scale from Star Decals is devoted to a single type, the fully tracked tractor Raupenschlepper Ost in the version given in the name as R.S.O. / 01. Unlike sets aimed at one unit, these are decals for a particular machine, so they suit anyone who is building this tractor.
The Raupenschlepper Ost came about as an answer to the conditions of the Eastern Front, where wheeled hardware failed again and again in deep mud and snow. The solution was a simple tracked tractor with a large contact area and low ground pressure, which could move even where a truck bogged down. At the cost of very low speed it carried supplies and towed artillery pieces. The version designated 01 had a closed sheet metal cab; simplified variants were built later. It is exactly the unassuming look and the purely rear-area role that makes this machine a rewarding subject for dioramas with mud and snow.
The tractor is rewarding to weather: mud on the tracks and the running gear, scuffed cab edges and a faded tarpaulin over the bed. Lay the markings on before you set about the earthy effects, though, and give the area under them a coat of gloss varnish. Once it has dried, even the surface out with a matte varnish and only then build up dust and mud. The manufacturer's recommendations for applying them are given on the packaging of the set.
These are decals, not a kit of the tractor. The paints and the varnishes are not included in the package.
