Trumpeter 1:35 UH-1Y Venom, a plastic kit of the modern US Marine Corps utility helicopter with its characteristic four-blade rotor. A large model with a fuselage length of around 44 cm, ideal for a diorama as well.
Responsibility details are not available.
Injection-molded plastic kit of the modern UH-1Y Venom utility helicopter in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. It is a new mold of recent years: a fuselage with finely engraved detail, a well-developed cockpit and cabin, finely rendered rotors, clear glazing parts and photo-etch in the box. The finished model is about 44 cm long, which in this scale makes it a genuinely large piece that can also be built as part of a diorama with ground vehicles and figures in 1:35, because it shares the scale with ordinary tanks, vehicles and figures.
Mind a possible mix-up: the UH-1Y Venom is NOT the Vietnam Huey. Although it derives from the legendary Bell UH-1 family, it is the newest branch of development: it came about under the H-1 upgrade program for the US Marine Corps and follows on from the twin-engine UH-1N Twin Huey. Its hallmark is the four-blade composite main rotor (the classic Vietnam Hueys had a two-blade rotor), a more powerful pair of engines, a strengthened transmission, modern digital avionics and compatibility with night vision goggles. The result is higher speed, a greater useful load and better toughness. The machine carries out tasks from troop transport through overhead support, reconnaissance and medical evacuation to resupply; it shares a large share of its components with the AH-1Z Viper. It looks like a Huey, but it is a modern machine of the 21st century, and the model, its armament and its markings should look that way too.
The build is conventional: liquid cement for polystyrene, cutting the parts off with a small margin and cleaning them up. It is a good idea to finish and paint the cabin and cockpit interior before the fuselage is closed. Mask the glazing (a cut-out of masking tape or liquid mask) and fit it only after the base color, ideally with cement for clear parts. Apply primer before painting, spray the matte gray shades of American naval helicopters with an airbrush and break them up with lighter passes. The steel eyes, the tie-down points and the exhausts deserve a dark wash and sooty shades. Glue the rotor blades at the very end, after painting and decals, because the long parts break off easily and get in the way while handling.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
