A resin wheel set in 1:35 scale for the American 1.5-ton 4x4 truck of the G-506 group, that is for the type known as the Chevrolet G7107. The set is not a kit of the vehicle; it is an accessory for swapping the plastic wheels from the box. The tires have the general type tread pattern, which is the only distinguishing feature against the sister set with the early tread.
A resin casting is in one piece, so no parting line arises on the tread, which on plastic tires you have to sand away and thereby damage the pattern. The detail of the tread, of the lettering on the side and of the profile of the rim stays sharper. The wheel is cast with a weighted deformation: the contact patch is flattened and the side of the tire slightly bulged, as if the weight of a loaded vehicle were resting on the wheel. That gives a finished model a believable stance on its base.
The vehicles of the G-506 group formed the backbone of the lighter freight transport of American units during the Second World War and under Allied deliveries they served with other armies too, where you will find them in flatbed, tanker and workshop forms and as a chassis for weapon systems. The tires changed during production as well, so the tread is among the details by which a model can be assigned to a particular period.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release from the mold, because otherwise stains and flaking will appear under the paint. Cut the casting block off with a thin saw, finish the cut with a scalpel and level the surface with a file; do the sanding wet and with protection for your airways. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. After spraying the primer, paint the rim and the tread separately, and the impression of wear will be given by a dry brush and dust pigments.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
