An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese cruiser Mogami in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer Tamiya. The package captures the ship in her later form as an aviation cruiser with a deck for floatplanes at the stern; besides the plastic parts it contains photo-etched parts, clear parts and a stand. The model is built from individual parts and is intended to be glued and painted. Note that several variants of the Mogami exist; this one is the Tamiya kit in 1:350 scale.
Mogami was a Japanese heavy cruiser of the Second World War period and the lead ship of her class. She was originally armed with turrets carrying 15.5 cm guns, which were later replaced by 20.3 cm barrels, and that turned the ship into a heavy cruiser. During the war she took part in a number of operations in the Pacific; after heavy damage her after part was rebuilt into an aviation deck from which a group of floatplanes could operate. It is this later aviation configuration that the model captures.
With a ship model, first decide whether you are building the full hull or the waterline version on a stand. Paint the deck and the superstructures in subassemblies before you glue them together for good. Bond the fine photo-etched railings and details with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Spray the hull and the decks with an airbrush and bring out the panel lines and recesses with a dark wash. The masts and the small antennas are fragile, so leave them until the end. You set the model on the stand supplied.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
