Artwox Model offers the flight deck in two finishes, and this is the blue variant: the veneer keeps the real texture of wood, but the printing of the plank laying is done in the dark blue tone that the flight decks of American aircraft carriers carried once overpainted. The color variant and what follows from it

A blue deck changes the overall composition of the model; against natural wood it is markedly darker and the contrast with a gray hull is subtler. That is exactly why it pays to match the shade of the surroundings. Spray the superstructures and side walkways before gluing the veneer on, so that you do not have to mask a finished deck. If the model is already sprayed, cover the surroundings with a paper mask and work with as little overspray as possible, as a self-adhesive surface is hard to clean of overspray.

Gluing step by step

Degrease the plastic first and let it dry thoroughly; on a greasy surface the edges of the veneer will lift sooner or later. Peel the covering film off in sections and lay the deck from the middle toward the bow and the stern. Trim the overhang with a sharp knife along the edge of the hull. The blue printing takes a gentle emphasis of the seams with a very thin dark wash, but do not overdo it, as a dark color already takes away from the readability of the texture. Matte or semi-matte varnish will even it out and protect it; gloss would look out of place on a deck.
