The accessory set 1:350 USS Iowa BB-61 1984 Detail Up Set from Pontos Model for a model of the American battleship after her 1980s modernization. It is a set of accessories, not the model itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set is an accessory for a model of the battleship Iowa in 1:350 scale, not a kit of the ship. The year 1984 in the name is the key: it determines the form of the ship after her return to service in the 1980s, which differs from her wartime state in superstructure, electronics and armament. The set is cut for the kit from Tamiya.
USS Iowa BB-61 was the lead ship of the class of the same name of American fast battleships, with main armament of 406 mm caliber in three triple turrets. In 1984 she returned to service after a modernization in which she was given new sensors, boxed launchers for guided missiles and close-in defense systems. It is this era that gave the ship her characteristic silhouette, with low superstructure and modern electronics above a classic gunnery hull.
Cut the photo-etched parts off with a scalpel on a hard surface and bend them in a bender, so that the edges come out straight. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) in minute amounts applied with a pin. Leave the railings and antennas until the very end, otherwise you will bend them while handling the model. It pays to break up the gray expanse of the hull by lightly lightening the individual panels; otherwise a model at this scale looks flat. Apply a primer to the metal parts, as without one the paint comes off.
This is an accessory set, not a complete model. The base kit, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
