This set from Brengun is a complete accessory for a modeler building the British Fairey Barracuda carrier aircraft in the Mk.V version in 1:48 scale. Unlike partial sets that deal only with the wheels or only with the cockpit, a detail set aims at several areas of a model at once. It is cut for one particular kit, the Special Hobby one, and cannot be used without it; it is not a model itself.
The Barracuda was a British carrier-borne torpedo and dive bomber with a high-mounted wing and a characteristic tall tail. The Mk.V version represented a late stage of the type's development with a more powerful engine and revised tail surfaces, so it differs from the earlier versions externally too. For a modeler that means accessories for the early versions may not fit the Mk.V and the other way round.
It pays to go through a more extensive set before you start building: a number of parts have to be fitted before the fuselage or the wing is joined, and there is no getting back to them afterwards. Wash the resin free of mold release in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry. Cut the casting blocks off with a modeling saw, and on thin parts support the base so that the casting does not break through. Sand wet with respiratory protection. Bond with super glue, and on larger areas use a thicker type, which leaves time to fine-tune the position. Once the resin is in place, dry-fit the fuselage and take off any overhang rather than forcing the halves together. Before painting, spray the whole surface with primer so that the resin and the plastic have the same absorbency.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
