A photo-etched metal set for a model of the carrier-borne Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet in 1:48 scale. It adds detail to the model that a plastic part cannot manage at this thickness.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F/A-18E Super Hornet is an American single-seat carrier-borne combat aircraft intended for service on aircraft carriers. It was created as an enlarged and reworked version of the earlier Hornet: it got a bigger airframe, angular air intakes and more hardpoints for stores. In design terms it is a machine that handles fighter duties as well as strikes against ground targets, so it turns up practically everywhere in today's naval aviation of the United States.
A photo-etched fret is a thin metal sheet from which the parts are cut, shaped and glued onto the model. Its strength lies precisely in the thickness: in 1:48 scale plastic cannot be molded as thin as the real subject would call for, whereas a metal part looks right even up close. It is used where the real machine has thin sheet metal or a fine structure, that is on belts and controls in the cockpit, on meshes, loops and access doors. What exactly the fret holds is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, do not break them out between your fingers. Make the bend over the edge of a bending tool or between two blades, so that it is straight along its whole length. Metal is glued with a small amount of cyanoacrylate, because polystyrene cement will not bond it. Before painting, wash the fret, degrease it and apply a primer. The set is drawn for one particular kit, so check with the manufacturer which 1:48 model it belongs to.
A photo-etched set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
