The set for the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 in 1:48 scale brings films for the glazing from both sides, masks for the national insignia, decals and four turned metal barrels: two MG 17 machine guns and two MG FF cannons. For the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Emil carried mixed armament and it shows on it nicely. Above the engine sat two MG 17 machine guns of 7.92 millimeters caliber, whose thin tubes peep out of the cowling only slightly. In the wings two MG FF cannons of 20 millimeters caliber were built in, and those are noticeable from a distance: a thicker wall, a wider bore and a muzzle projecting from the leading edge. It is precisely this disparity that makes a package containing four metal parts in two different diameters a more accurate solution than uniform plastic stubs.
The difference was not only in appearance. A fast-firing machine gun had a flat trajectory and many rounds per minute, but little effect against an armored target. A cannon with a drum magazine fired slowly and its heavy shells flew in a visible arc, but a single hit decided the matter. Pilots had to learn to combine the two, because both weapons aimed differently.
The rest of the contents belongs to painting. The films cover the angular greenhouse from both sides, the second sheet of masks makes it possible to spray the crosses and the enclosed decal sheet covers the fine marking.
The turned parts belong on the model only after the finish is complete. The brass can be darkened with a shade of oxidized steel or left in its natural sheen; either looks better than oversprayed plastic, because paint holds on smooth metal in a thin layer and does not clog the fine bore or the sharp rim of the muzzle. The rest of the surface has to be rid of dust and grease from the fingers before the films are applied.
Everything is cut to the Tamiya kit in 1:48 scale. The plastic model is not part of the package.
