1:48 F-4 Phantom II – weighted wheels is a 3D-printed resin set with a realistic sag of the tires under the weight of the aircraft, for the C, D, E and F versions.
Responsibility details are not available.
An aftermarket detail set in 1:48 scale, not an aircraft model. The set brings the main and nose wheels cast by 3D printing in resin with so-called weighting – the tires have a faithfully flattened contact patch and a slight bulge in the sidewalls, as though the full weight of the machine rested on them. That gives a standing Phantom II model a convincing impression of mass. The set covers the C, D, E and F versions.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was a heavy two-seat supersonic fighter-bomber. Its sturdy landing gear carried a considerable weight on the aircraft, so weighted tires with a distinct contact patch are an important detail in rendering a standing Phantom realistically.
Wash the uncured print resin residue off the wheels, separate them from the print supports and bond with super glue. Orient the flattening of the tire at right angles to the ground, so that the contact patch sits on the surface. Paint the tires in a matte rubber black with a hint of dust and set the rims apart with a metallic or opaque shade.
The detail set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
