The A-4 version differed from the previous one mainly in its radio and its supercharging; the armament stayed the same. The more interesting question is therefore why this configuration was not kept. The outer pair of MG FF cannons was the weak link of the whole arrangement: the ammunition was fed into it from a drum, so the supply was limited, the rate of fire low and the shell left the short barrel at a speed that made its trajectory drop markedly. The MG 151 cannons in the wing root, meanwhile, fired faster and flatter.
The pilot thus had two weapons of the same caliber in the wing but with different ballistics, and had to allow for each of them hitting elsewhere at a greater distance. From the A-6 version the Focke-Wulf therefore received a lighter wing with belt feed and MG 151 in the outer mount as well. Four identical cannons at last aimed at one point.
This set captures the earlier state with three different weapons, and that is why there are six barrels in three diameters in it: thin ones for the machine guns above the engine, medium ones for the root cannons and different ones for the outer pair. A metal Pitot tube completes the set as a replacement for the most fragile molding on the whole model.
The masking part covers the glazing from the outer as well as the inner side and one sheet is reserved for spraying the national insignia. Decals are enclosed as well.
Before fitting, it pays to try each part dry and to clear the hole in the wing with a drill of the matching diameter. Brass is softer than it looks, and when pushed into a tight seat the end is squashed before the builder notices.
The dimensions of the package are based on the Hasegawa model in 1:48 scale and there are no plastic parts in it.
