Trumpeter 1:48 H-34 US Marines is a plastic kit of the piston-engined Sikorsky H-34 transport helicopter in US Marine Corps service.

The kit in 1:48 scale captures the Sikorsky H-34 transport helicopter in the form used by the US Marine Corps. The model is injection-molded in polystyrene and is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Thanks to the large fuselage and the big main rotor the helicopter is a striking modeling subject at this scale and comes out well even on its own on a display base. Check the particular contents of the package, the number of parts and the decal schemes offered in the instructions supplied in the box before you start building.
The Sikorsky H-34, known in civil and export form as the S-58, was a transport helicopter powered by a radial piston engine housed in the forward part of the fuselage. The engine in the nose gave the machine its characteristic tall, forward-sloping profile, the crew cabin sat above the engine bay and the cargo compartment took up the middle of the fuselage. The landing gear was of the tail-wheel type in the basic form. The US Marine Corps used these machines as a transport and supply asset, among other places in Southeast Asia, where they were among the most numerous helicopters of their day. Piston power on helicopters was gradually replaced by turboshaft engines, which offered a better power-to-weight ratio.
On helicopters it pays to start from the interior of the cargo compartment and the cabin, because a great deal is visible from inside through the large glazing and the open doors. Mask the glazing before spraying, ideally with cut masks or carefully trimmed tape. Glue the rotor blades right at the end so that the model does not get in the way during handling, and watch their even spacing. Liven up the single-color finishes typical of this machinery with modulation of the shade, fine paneling and a discreet deposit of dust at the bottom of the fuselage. Use gloss clear coat under the decals and then flatten the edges of the film with the final clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
