This set from the LööK line of the Czech maker Eduard brings together the two things that decide how a cockpit looks: an instrument panel cast in resin and finished in color at the factory, and seat belts in steel, which can be shaped and hold the bend they are given. The result is a cockpit that, once the transparencies are in place, looks markedly more alive than a plastic part with a dry decal, and all without painting the individual dials by hand. The set is an accessory, not a model.
The Messerschmitt Bf 110 was a twin-engine heavy fighter of German design from the late 1930s, fitted with a pair of liquid-cooled engines and manned by a crew of two. The D version was created as a long-range variant, achieved with an additional fuel tank and changes to the fuselage. The stations of the pilot and the rear crewman were long, and under the extensive glazing they stay clearly visible on a finished model, which makes cockpit accessories a sensible investment on this type.
Once the instrument panel is off the casting block, clean it up only carefully, as the color layer is thin and coarse sanding can damage it. Do not spread glue over it; a drop of super glue at the edges is enough to hold it. The dials gain depth when you go over them with a drop of gloss varnish, which imitates the glass of the instrument. Degrease the steel belts, shape them carefully over a round object so that they hold a natural sag, and glue them with super glue. Finish the cockpit and suggest the dusty places with a dry brush before you close the fuselage up.
This is an accessory, not a model in its own right. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
