The MiG-3 is a Soviet single-seat fighter of the beginning of the Second World War. It was powered by a liquid-cooled Mikulin V12 and the aircraft was tuned for performance at high altitude, where it was among the fastest Soviet types. At low altitude, where most of the fighting of 1941 took place, its qualities no longer stood out so well. The cockpit was narrow and framed, with the instrument panel clearly in view.
The set brings a colored cockpit interior. The detail is printed on a 3D printer and transferred onto decal paper, so that the instrument panel, the side panels, the levers and the seat have real relief height, and once in place they create a three-dimensional surface with legible dials and markings. The shaping matches the Trumpeter kit in 1:48 scale.
The elements of the QD range are printed on decal backing paper. The part is cut from the sheet, soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the paper onto the cleaned surface. It has no adhesive layer of its own, so set it on gloss varnish of the Future or Klear and Tamiya X-22 type; on a broken-up surface a drop of super glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemistry would attack the printed resin. Pressing with a soft tool will settle the material even into slightly contoured areas. It is advisable to sand the molded relief on the plastic away beforehand, so that the element beds onto a flat surface.
The set suits modelers who want deeply drawn cockpit detail without painting tiny instruments and without bending metal. The package contains only the interior sheet. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
