A sheet in 1:48 scale with six twin-boom night fighters of the early production subseries.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Northrop P-61 was the first American aircraft that from the first sketch was built as a radar carrier. The twin-boom design hid a large antenna under the nose, the crew consisted of a pilot, an operator and a gunner, and the whole machine received a black finish so that it would not be seen over a night landscape. The sheet captures six machines of the early production subseries A-5 and A-10.
The selection is unusually varied for a night fighter precisely because it mixes European and Asian theaters. The French machines worked over the front at a time when German night raids were already weakening, whereas the Chinese squadron dealt with entirely different tasks and a different climate. The last of the aircraft listed did not belong to a combat unit but to the commander of a formation, which can be told by the restrained markings without crew art. The contrast between it and the colorfully painted machines of the squadrons gives an unusually wide choice on one sheet of how to approach a model.
