A set of two figures from the Taiwanese manufacturer Hobby Fan, cast in resin. This is not injection molded plastic but a resin casting, which means finer detail on the cloth and the equipment, but at the same time a different procedure for preparation and gluing. The set is intended for more experienced modelers, because it calls for cutting off the casting blocks, washing off the release agent and gluing with cyanoacrylate glue. The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The abbreviation ROCA denotes the ground army of the Republic of China, that is, Taiwan. In the period of the 1960s and 1970s its armament and equipment were largely based on American patterns, complemented by local adaptations suited to the subtropical climate of the island. It is a theme that figure ranges practically never cover, so the set serves well for scenes that cannot otherwise be put together from commonly available American or European figures.
First wash the parts with lukewarm water and dish soap to remove the mold release agent, otherwise the paint will not hold even over a primer. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter, not with nippers, as resin is brittle and a piece of the figure will break away with it. While sanding, work wet and protect your airways, because resin dust is unhealthy. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; cement for polystyrene does not work here at all. Lay on a primer before painting, as on smooth resin the paint comes off without it. Paint the uniform from a darker base toward lighter upper surfaces, build the faces up in layers and do not rush, because it is the face that decides whether a figure looks alive. At the end even the surface out with a matte coat and leave only the straps, the buckles and the leather semi-matte.
