This item is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory set of replacement wheels for a model of the Swedish Saab J 35 Draken fighter in 1:48 scale. It comes from the Brassin program of the Czech manufacturer Eduard, which specializes in accessories of this kind. Eduard offers two forms of wheel for the Draken, designated Type 1 and Type 2; before buying it therefore pays to compare photographs of the particular machine you want to build, because the wheels differ between the individual versions and periods of service.
The Saab 35 Draken was an exceptionally bold design for its time. Its distinguishing mark is the double delta, that is a wing with two different angles of sweep, which gave it good behavior both at high speeds and on landing. It first flew in the middle of the fifties and became the backbone of the Swedish fighter force for decades. It also flew in Denmark, Finland and Austria, and outside Sweden it stayed in service until the turn of the millennium. The Swedish concept of dispersed defense reckoned with taking off from stretches of road, which placed no small demands on the landing gear and the wheels.
The wheels are painted separately from the model, because the rim and the tire have a different shade and a different degree of gloss. A tire is never black, rather dark gray; once sprayed, fine dust on the tread does good service. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Before you fit the parts, check whether the axles of the landing gear match, and adjust them carefully if need be.
