An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese aircraft carrier Shinano in 1:700 scale from Fujimi, the Fune Next line. This special edition has a pre-colored hull and deck and captures the ship as she was in 1945. The flight deck is split into two parts (the surface and the outer edge), which makes painting easier; the anti-submarine camouflage on the sides is done with stickers, and decals for the deck line and the hinomaru marking are included as well.
The Shinano was the third hull of the Yamato class. After the losses at Midway the Japanese completed her not as a battleship but as a giant support aircraft carrier — she was the largest aircraft carrier of her day. Her flight deck was covered with a special protective compound, hence the concrete deck. She never went into action — on 29 November 1944, only a few days after entering service, she was sunk on her first voyage by the American submarine USS Archerfish.
The pre-colored plastic and the stickers make a quick build possible even without an airbrush, but the model gains considerably if the details are painted in and a fine wash is run into the panel lines. The split deck is easy to mask. Glue the small parts of the anti-aircraft armament carefully with liquid cement. Anyone who wishes can replace the stickers with conventional paintwork.
The model is supplied unassembled. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
