About product

O Class British Destroyer 1:700 – Tamiya (Waterline)

A plastic kit model of the British destroyer of the O class in 1:700 scale from Tamiya, from the Waterline range. The model is built as a waterline version with the hull above the waterline and captures the typical silhouette of a British wartime destroyer of the Second World War period.

The real subject

The destroyers of the O class belonged to the wartime programs of the Royal Navy of the early 1940s. They were fast, versatile ships intended for escorting convoys and task forces and for escort duty, with gun and torpedo armament and anti-submarine equipment. They were fielded above all in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

Building and painting tips

Seat the waterline hull on a flat base for an accurate waterline. Glue the small superstructure parts and the masts with liquid cement for plastic. Camouflages in Admiralty shades suit British ships (gray schemes, for example); bring the panel and deck details to life with a fine wash, and railings can be added with aftermarket photo-etch.

Who the model is for

  • anyone interested in the Royal Navy of the Second World War
  • collectors of destroyers in 1:700 scale
  • modelers building escort groups and dioramas
  • moderately experienced as well as advanced builders

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
