An injection-molded plastic kit of the American aircraft carrier USS Franklin (CV-13) of the Essex class in 1:700 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The split hull allows a build with a full hull as well as a waterline; a base for display is part of the package. The exact contents and the number of parts are given by the instruction sheet. In 1:700 scale this is a model with a great many fine parts.
USS Franklin was a fleet aircraft carrier of the Essex class, the backbone of the American Pacific fleet in the second half of the war. In March 1945 she was hit hard by bombs off the Japanese islands and the ensuing fires and explosions cost hundreds of lives; even so the ship was saved and steamed away. Trumpeter depicts the ship in her 1944 configuration.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with a thin cement for plastic; the small parts in 1:700 call for care and are well complemented by fine photo-etched railings (available separately). Decide in advance between the full hull and the waterline. Before painting apply a primer and lay the coats on with an airbrush; render the deck in the matching scheme and accent the lines with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
