A plastic kit of the American battleship USS North Carolina, hull number BB-55, in the ship scale 1:700. The manufacturer is the brand I Love Kit. The model is intended to be glued together and painted and represents the lead ship of the class of the same name, that is the ship the US Navy commissioned shortly before it entered the Second World War.
USS North Carolina was the first American battleship built after the international limitations had expired and she meant a generational leap over the older vessels. The main armament was nine 406 mm guns in three triple turrets, backed by dual-purpose artillery and a very strong anti-aircraft battery that kept growing during the war. The ship was markedly faster than her predecessors, so she could operate together with the fast carrier task forces, and that is exactly what decided her role in the Pacific. She served in a whole series of operations and came through the war. Today she is preserved as a museum ship and is among the best known surviving American battleships.
First decide whether you will build the full hull or the waterline version, because that also affects the way the model is mounted on its stand. Finish the superstructures and the decks as subassemblies and paint them separately while they are still accessible, because once they are glued on you will not reach them. Set the deck surfaces apart from the sides of the hull, because with ships the contrast of wood and gray is the main thing. Paint with an airbrush, do dazzle camouflage schemes with cut masks and keep the boundaries between shades crisp. Fit the small gun barrels and the masts right at the very end. If you add photo-etched railings, ladders or radars, glue them with cyanoacrylate a piece at a time and paint them beforehand. Run the rigging with fine thread as the last step.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
