Replacement wheels for the B-24 Liberator model in 1:72 scale with a diamond tread pattern.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Consolidated B-24 Liberator was an American four-engine heavy bomber of the Second World War. It stood on nose gear and the main wheels carried a substantial part of the machine's weight when fully loaded. Aircraft tires of the period differed in the design of the tread, and the diamond pattern was one of those that are easy to recognize in period photographs: small diamonds cover the whole contact surface, so the wheel grips even on the soft ground of field airfields.
Replacement wheels in 1:72 scale with a diamond tread pattern. In this scale kit wheels tend to be smooth or only shallowly suggested, so replacing them is one of the few changes visible on a finished model at first glance. The parts list is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Wash and degrease the wheels before painting. Cut off the excess material with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the remainder so that the design of the tread stays readable. Paint the tire dark gray, then lift the pattern with a dry brush one shade lighter and add a dark wash in the recesses. Paint the wheel rim separately and run the edge against the tire patiently with a brush. Check the tread pattern against photographs of the particular machine beforehand, because it differed from machine to machine.
The set is intended for modelers who build the B-24 in 1:72 scale and want wheels that match period photographs. Paints, glue and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
