About product

MH Models 1:72 Gotha Go-242B — a mask for the glazing

A set of self-adhesive masks for spraying the frames of the glazing of a model of the Gotha Go 242B transport glider in 1:72 scale. The masks are die-cut to the shape of the frames in advance, so all you do is peel them off and lay them on. The canopy airbrush mask designation in the name makes clear that they are meant for the glazing and for spraying with an airbrush. The package contains masking material only, no plastic parts.

The real subject

The Gotha Go 242 was a German transport glider of the Second World War with a high-mounted wing and a pair of tail booms. The cargo space in the rear part of the fuselage made it possible to load bulkier loads. The Go 242B version differed from the original form mainly in its landing gear: instead of a jettisonable dolly and landing skids it received fixed wheeled landing gear. The glazed forward part of the cockpit is divided into a series of small panes, so masking is among the most laborious steps on the model.

Usage tips

Degrease the clear parts and let them dry, and only then lay the masks on. Press each one down around its whole perimeter with a soft tool so that paint cannot creep under the edge; with a large number of small panes it pays to check this against the light. The frames are usually sprayed first in the interior shade and only then in the exterior finish. Apply thin coats; a heavy layer makes a step at the edge. Take a mask off with tweezers shortly after the paint has dried, pulling at an angle back over itself.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Go 242B in 1:72 scale.
  • Those who do not want to cut dozens of tiny masks by hand.
  • Builders working with an airbrush who need a crisp paint edge.
  • Modelers who dislike paint creeping under ordinary masking tape.

This is not a kit. The set contains masks only — the model, paints and glue are not included in the package. Check the match with your own Go 242B kit in 1:72 scale before ordering.

FAQ

No. This is only a masking set for a Go 242B kit in 1:72 scale, which has to be bought separately.

The B version had fixed wheeled landing gear, whereas the older form used a jettisonable dolly and landing skids. The mask is designated in the name for the B version.

The exact number is not stated here. The extent of the set matches the division of the glazing of the model; the particular figure is on the packaging.

The key things are degreasing the glass and pressing the edges of the mask down thoroughly with a soft tool. Spraying thin coats from a greater distance also helps.
