A set of pre-cut masking stencils in 1:72 scale for the Japanese N1K2-J fighter aircraft. The masks are cut from fine kabuki-type masking tape, follow the curve of the cockpit canopy well and leave no adhesive on the clear parts once taken off. Besides the frames of the glazing, the set covers the wheel discs as well. It is not a kit but an accessory with which you will speed up and sharpen the preparation of a model for spraying.
The Kawanishi N1K2-J was a single-seat fighter aircraft with a radial engine, carried by the Allies under the code name George. It came about by reworking the earlier N1K1-J variant: it received a low-mounted wing, shorter and simpler landing gear and a newly designed fuselage and tail surfaces. It is also designated as the Shiden-Kai. The cockpit canopy is of the sliding kind, with several frames that are hard to mask by hand in a small scale.
First wash the glazing in soapy water and let it dry thoroughly. Lift the individual masks off with tweezers and press them down with a toothpick along the whole length of the frame. The recommended procedure is to spray the interior paint, then the base and finally the exterior coat, with the very first coat being only very thin, so that it seals the edge of the mask. Take the masks off right after the paint has dried, not after several days. If an overrun nevertheless appears under the edge, scrape it off with the point of a toothpick and not with the blade of a knife, or you will scratch the glazing.
It is an accessory to a model, not a kit. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
