Injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese Nakajima Ki-201 Karyu jet fighter in 1:72 scale. It is a new tooling from RS Models; the box holds gray-molded parts, a clear canopy part, a decal sheet and instructions. The set offers markings for several machines, among them a variant tested by the Allies after the war.
The Ki-201 Karyu, meaning fire dragon, was the project for the first jet fighter and attack aircraft of the Japanese army, strongly inspired by the German Messerschmitt Me 262. Development ran in the very last months of the Second World War, but neither production machines nor prototypes were finished before it ended. The design called for a single-seat all-metal aircraft with two jet engines in nacelles under the wing.
As with short-run kits, it pays to dry-fit the parts before gluing, to fine-tune the mating surfaces where needed and to use thin cement for plastic. Apply a filler primer before spraying and put the color down with an airbrush if you can. We recommend polishing the clear canopy with gloss varnish before the decals go on.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
