This resin set from the Quickboost brand, made by the Czech manufacturer Aires, brings finely cast pitot tubes (airspeed probes) for a model of the Soviet Sukhoi Su-7 fighter-bomber in 1:72 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, which replaces the easily damaged and coarser plastic parts with a sharp and slim casting.

The real subject

The Sukhoi Su-7 was a Soviet single-engine fighter-bomber of the Cold War era with a swept wing and a nose air intake. It served mainly for attacks on ground targets and was exported to a number of friendly states. The pitot tubes projecting from the nose and the leading edges are among the small but clearly visible details that stand out easily on a model.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with your airways protected. Bond the slim tubes with super glue (cyanoacrylate) at the very end of the build so that they do not snap off. Try the fit dry before painting.
