Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of a small missile boat in 1:72 scale. The Osa-2 version is told from the earlier form above all by the shape of the launch containers for the anti-ship missiles, which on this form are cylindrical. The 1:72 scale gives enough room for the deck details, the gun turrets and the superstructure, while the finished model is still reasonably sized for a display case. For modelers who build aircraft or vehicles in 1:72 it is an interesting way of getting a vessel into a collection in the same scale.
The boats of the Osa class were among the numerous missile boats of Soviet design. They were small fast craft with a watertight superstructure, a radar, a pair of twin gun turrets and launchers for anti-ship missiles along the sides. The Osa-2 form differs from the older Osa-1 in the shape of the launch containers and in details of the superstructure; both types served with a number of navies and were also the model for derived designs.
Small craft will not stand a careless hull joint; sand it smooth and polish it with the finest paper, because straight sides have no texture to mask an unevenness. Build the launch containers and the turrets separately and fit them only once the deck is painted. Gray schemes need enlivening: add a light modulating lightening of the large areas, a dark wash in the welds and the walked-on places, and fine rust undertones at the anchor gear. The radar, aerials and railings can be handled either with a photo-etched set or with stretched sprue and thin wire. Finally even the surface out with matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
