Metal barrels in 1:72 scale for the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXe and Mk.XVIe in the early configuration with conical fairings. The set covers the 20 mm Hispano cannon and the 12.7 mm machine guns.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Spitfire with the e wing carried mixed armament: a pair of 20 mm Hispano cannon complemented by 12.7 mm Browning machine guns. Early machines had the cannon barrels covered by conical fairings, which changed on later production. It is exactly this early form that the set covers, for the Mk.IXe as well as for the Mk.XVIe.
These are metal barrels in 1:72 scale that replace the plastic parts from the kit. Metal takes a far smaller wall thickness than injection-molded plastic, so the muzzle of the barrel really is hollow and its outline stays straight, without a production mark along its whole length. The list of parts and their assignment to the individual positions on the wing are in the enclosed instructions.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the root and widen the hole carefully with a drill to the diameter of the pin on the metal part, so that it seats without play and on the correct axis. Try the fit dry and only then secure it with a drop of super glue. Degrease the metal before painting, otherwise the paint rubs off. It pays to glue the barrels on only after the model has been sprayed and varnished, so that they do not get bent during the rest of the work.
It will be appreciated by a modeler who is bothered by blunt plastic barrels in a small scale and is looking for a simple way to move the model on. The work takes a few minutes and is visible at close range even in a finished display case.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
