Resin wheel chocks for American naval aviation of the Second World War in 1:72 scale are a diorama accessory to a finished model, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This small resin set from the Czech maker Brengun in 1:72 scale holds wheel chocks of the kind used by American naval aviation in the Second World War period. It is not an airplane model or a kit: these are accessory castings that are placed under the wheels of a model that is already finished, or into a diorama.
A parked aircraft was not secured with its brakes but with chocks placed on both sides of the main wheels. On a carrier deck and at field airfields that was the only reliable safeguard against a machine rolling. The chocks tended to be wooden, often joined by a rope or a strap so that the crew could pull them out in one go. On a model they look unobtrusive, but it is precisely details like these that distinguish a displayed model from a piece of plastic on a stand: a viewer subconsciously recognizes that the aircraft is standing because it is secured.
The castings are small, so work with them over a surface and not over a carpet. First wash them in warm soapy water to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a sharp knife, sand the area and do not forget that the underside of the chock has to be flat so that it sits on the surface. The painting is rewarding: a base shade of weathered wood or gray, a dry brush on the edges, a dark wash into the joints and a light dusting of pigment at the foot. A chock is never glued hard to the tire but to the base of the diorama.
This is an accessory set in resin, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
