One job here is beyond any brush: the hard edges of racing graphics. Most of the section is complete livery and dress-up sets for circuit machines, from a given season’s team colours to alternative schemes that were never boxed, and beside them sit individual sheets of printed carbon weave, a texture pattern and films with a mirror or coloured finish. Everything is cut for specific kits, and practically the whole selection is 1:12.
Below you will find how to choose a sheet and how to get the film to disappear into the paint.
Graphic sets are the core of the section. They are cut to the millimetre for the bodywork of one named kit, with numbers, logos and full liveries that lift a build out of its box-standard appearance, and they account for most of what is listed. Printed carbon weave is the smaller group: a woven composite surface cannot be painted convincingly, but a decal lays the pattern down evenly and at the right scale, and these sheets are also sold as plain areas from which you cut a panel to a template. A handful of items add a texture pattern and mirror or coloured finish films.
Graphic sets are shaped to one specific kit so that the outlines follow the fairing exactly; the description names it. Practically the whole selection is aimed at 1:12 motorcycle kits.
Match the fineness of the weave to the scale: a coarse pattern makes the model look smaller than it is. For graphics, the decision is season and team, and alternative schemes let you build a machine that never appeared in any box.
The surface underneath decides everything. It must be smooth and glossy or the result will disappoint, so sand out any texture and polish the gloss coat before you start. Float the decal onto a wet surface, press the air out from the centre, work it into shapes with a setting solution, and once dry flood the whole panel with a clear coat from the varnishes section so the edges vanish. On a matt base a decal silvers, so never economise on the gloss layer before application.
