About product

Mineshima modeling drill bit of 1.9 mm diameter

A single drill bit from Mineshima, the Japanese maker of modeling tools. The diameter of 1.9 millimeters is given in the designation of the item itself, so you plan the hole in advance and do not have to find it by trial and error. This is not a workshop tool but an instrument for fine modeling work, where a clean edge to the hole and an exact position are what count.

Drilling into resin parts

Resin behaves differently from injection-molded plastic. It is harder and at the same time more brittle, so under coarse pressure or at high speed the edge of the hole is apt to chip and a thin wall to crack. It pays off to drill slowly, without pressure and with pauses, so that the material does not heat up. Mark the spot in advance with the point of a needle or a scalpel, because otherwise the bit will wander on a smooth casting and the mark is then hard to repair.

Work tips

  • Make a small dimple first and only then go to the full diameter.
  • Support the part from below, so that a thin wall does not flex.
  • Guide the bit square and keep checking the angle from the side.
  • Clean the edge of the hole up with a scalpel or fine abrasive paper.

Who the drill bit is for

  • Modelers who build with resin accessories and conversions.
  • Builders who have run out of exactly this diameter from a set.
  • Anyone who prefers to complete their tools piece by piece rather than by sets.

Do not breathe resin dust in. Drill with your airways protected and wipe the work surface down with a damp cloth afterwards.

FAQ

Yes. Plastic is softer than resin; just watch the speed, because at a fast rate the material melts and the hole closes up again behind the bit.

You do not. Bits of this size are commonly held in a pin chuck, which gives better control than a motor. Just check that the clamping range of your pin chuck takes the 1.9 mm diameter.

The number of pieces in the package is stated on the packaging. What defines it is the diameter of 1.9 millimeters.
