The 200-liter barrel belongs among the most ordinary equipment of workshops, stores, fuel points and field repair shops. In 1:16 scale it comes out so large that the hoops, the ribbing of the shell and the closures on the top head are apparent on it. In a diorama it therefore comes across as a full-fledged object, not as a mere filler of free space.
The barrel is offered in a damaged rendition, that is, as a piece that already has something behind it. It comes into its own in neglected yards, by abandoned positions and in scenes after a battle, where a new and perfectly straight barrel would come across as jarring. It goes well together with jerrycans, crates and other small equipment in the same scale.
The part is not of polystyrene, so it is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Cut any surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder. Before painting, wash the surface in lukewarm water with detergent, let it dry off and apply a primer. Do the rust and the traces of fuel in layers: a darker base, brightening of the upper surfaces and finally a dark wash into the hollows, which will accentuate the hoops. Runs always lead from the top downward and end at the lower hoop, not in the middle of the shell.
A fitting way to complete dioramas and display cases in 1:16 scale, where a large scale takes detailed working of the surface as well. The barrels moreover come into their own outside a scene too, as a small filler of shelves and racks in a model of a workshop. The paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
