This kit is not a model of a vehicle but of the weapon itself. It depicts the Chinese Type 75 recoilless rifle of 105 mm caliber, a light anti-tank weapon that appeared in the armament of the Chinese People's Liberation Army both on a ground mount and on light off-road vehicles. The 1:35 scale matches the usual size of figures and ground vehicles, so the model suits as a striking element in a diorama or as a small standalone project for one evening.
Recoilless rifles solve the problem of recoil by venting part of the gases backward through an open breech. The weapon can therefore be markedly lighter than a conventional gun of the same caliber and can be carried by a small crew or a light chassis. The price is a conspicuous cloud of dust and gas behind the weapon, which gives away the firing position, and a danger area behind the breech. The Type 75 is based on the design of the American M40 gun and in the Chinese army it was among the basic means against armored vehicles at short and medium range.
On a small model of a weapon every inaccuracy shows, so take the time to clean up the parting lines of the barrel and to glue the tube and the nozzle extension concentrically. A base coat will reveal any scratches before you start on the covering coat. The metal of the barrel comes out well if, once the base shade has dried, you gently pick out the edges with a lighter tone and the recesses with a dark accent. Traces of dust on the underside and a light smoky cast at the muzzle add credibility to the whole.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
