Kontakt-1 reactive armor in 1:35 scale from Firma49 adds to a model the characteristic blocks carried by Soviet equipment from the mid-1980s.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory set in 1:35 scale from Firma49. According to its name it contains blocks of Kontakt-1 reactive armor, which were mounted on vehicles in continuous arrays on the turret, the front of the hull and the sides. The set serves as an accessory to a model; the vehicle itself has to be obtained separately.
Reactive armor is a layer of separate blocks with an explosive filling. When a shaped-charge round strikes, the block reacts and disperses the jet before it reaches the base armor. Kontakt-1 belongs to the first generation of these systems, entered service in the 1980s and gave vehicles the typical angular look by which they can be placed in period.
The layout of the blocks is not random; it follows the grid of the particular vehicle type, so first mark their positions on the model according to your references. Glue the blocks on row by row and keep checking that the plane matches the adjoining armor. It is best to paint them only once they are in place, so that the transitions between the blocks and the hull look like a single whole. Keep later weathering low down, because dust holds on the vertical walls of the blocks only in the narrow gaps between them.
