Turned metal barrels for the French battleship Richelieu in 1:350 scale - eight barrels of 380 mm caliber, nine of 152 mm and twelve of 100 mm.
Responsibility details are not available.
A metal detail set for a model of the French battleship in 1:350 scale. It is not a kit but replacement artillery parts: eight barrels of 380 mm caliber, nine of 152 mm and twelve of 100 mm. The set thus covers the main, secondary and dual-purpose batteries in a single package.
Richelieu had her entire heavy artillery concentrated in two quadruple turrets forward. Eight barrels side by side in one plane is the hardest test of accuracy a ship model offers - any difference in length or angle shows at first glance, and plastic castings are moreover apt to bow as they shrink. Turned barrels are straight, equally long and have a finished bore. On the 100 mm caliber, where the barrel is as thin as a pin, an open muzzle is otherwise unattainable.
Before gluing, scribe a line on a piece of card and line up all the barrels of one turret on it to the same projection. Cut off the plastic barrels, open the holes out to the diameter of the shank and glue with gel super glue - on a quadruple turret epoxy pays off, as it gives enough time to true up all four pieces at once. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer for metal. French schemes tend to be light and contrasting, so you will appreciate thinly applied paint and a fine wash in the recesses of the turrets more than a heavy coat. Darken the muzzles by oxidation.
The set is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. The ship model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
