The F/A-18E and F/A-18F Super Hornet are American carrier multirole aircraft, and the EA-18G Growler is a machine for electronic warfare built on the same airframe. All of them carry an angle of attack probe on the sides of the forward fuselage. It is an unobtrusive pivoting vane that sets itself into the airflow and gives the onboard systems the angle of attack. Neither the warning to the pilot in slow flight nor the precise guidance of the machine down the glide path when landing on an aircraft carrier, where even a small deviation matters, can do without it.
The replacement part is rendered in 1:48 scale in the late form and replaces the corresponding part from the kit. It is exactly on such small projecting parts that the difference shows: a thin profile looks delicate, whereas a thicker part spoils the impression of the whole nose.
Cut the original part from the kit off with a sharp blade and sand the area carefully flat, so that the replacement seats with no gap. Remove surplus material and traces of manufacture with a fine file a little away from the part, then wash and degrease the part. It is bonded with super glue applied in a minute amount with the tip of a pin, so that the excess does not run onto the surrounding areas. Fit it at the end of the build, once the paints have been sprayed and have dried, so that it does not get broken off while the model is handled. The particular procedure is given in the manufacturer instructions.
