What the set offers

An accessory set of replacement wheels for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire in 1:48 scale. The wheels are unmissable on a finished model, because they stand at the viewer's eye level and the face of the tire is among the largest continuous parts of the landing gear. Replacement wheels tend to be rendered more sharply than the parts from a kit: a more pronounced tread pattern, a more legible transition from the tire to the hub and a cleaner outline.

The three-spoke hub

This is the form with a three-spoke hub. Over its production life the Spitfire saw several shapes of wheel hub and individual machines differ in this detail, so before the build it pays to compare the shape with a photograph of the particular aircraft you are building. Check the match with the kit in the instructions enclosed with the set.

Building and painting tips

• cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the remainder carefully
• the parts are not polystyrene; they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue
• wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the coat draws together into droplets
• mask the hub against the tire, or paint both separately and join them once dry
• the particular procedure for preparing the parts is given in the manufacturer's instructions

Who the set is for

For a builder for whom the wheels from a kit are not enough and who wants the landing gear finished to the same level as the rest of the model. It is a replacement of one unit, so it is a modification even a less experienced modeler can manage.
