The real subject

The MiG-21MF is one of the most widely used forms of the Soviet single-seat fighter with a delta wing and a single jet engine. It was built from the early 1970s, exported on a large scale and served with the Czechoslovak Air Force too, so it is among the types that Czech modelers build most often. On this type the cockpit is fairly visible under a raised canopy, and that is exactly why working on its detail pays off.

Building and painting tips

• Seat the parts dry first, because an add-on set tends to be bulkier than the original plastic and the cockpit tub has to be allowed for.
• Remove excess material and the marks of manufacture with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, or the paint will hold badly.
• The gluing procedure and any modifications to the kit are described in the manufacturer's instructions.
• Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage.
