An injection-molded kit of the single-seat US Air Force machine in 1:48 scale. Great Wall Hobby is a Chinese brand that has long devoted itself to combat aircraft in this scale and its molds are among the newer ones on the market. The Block 50 designation identifies a late production block, and the single-seat form sets this model apart from the two-seat machines of the D series.
The General Dynamics F-16 came about as a light day fighter and gradually turned into an all-purpose combat aircraft. Block 50 aircraft received the General Electric F110 powerplant, which sets them apart from the machines built alongside them with the Pratt and Whitney engine. Aircraft of this block took over the task of suppressing enemy air defenses, which involves carrying anti-radiation weapons and the matching sensor pod. From the outside they can be told by the larger, wide-mouthed intake and by the equipment on the hardpoints.
The two-tone gray scheme rests on the difference between subtle tones, so it is worth keeping a reference at hand and making the transitions with softly thinned paint. The cockpit with its large canopy is better finished and dry-fitted before the fuselage is closed. Prepare the stores separately and fit them only once the airframe has been weathered. Contrasting stripe markings come out best over a gloss intermediate coat.
The package contains an unassembled and unpainted model. Glue and paints have to be bought separately, unless stated otherwise.
