A plastic kit of the German battleship Gneisenau in her 1940 configuration, in 1:700 scale from Flyhawk. The Deluxe Edition form extends a good plastic basis with a rich set of etched parts, so the model allows the superstructures, the railings and the fine deck fittings to be built in high detail. The set is one of the more demanding ones and more experienced ship builders will appreciate it.
The Gneisenau, together with her sister ship the Scharnhorst, was a fast German battleship (often classed among the battlecruisers) with a main armament of nine 28 cm guns. During the Second World War she operated in the Atlantic, among other things on campaigns against Allied shipping. The 1940 configuration matches her early wartime appearance.
Decide whether you will build the model as a full hull or in waterline form on a stand. Glue the etched parts with super glue and bend them over a metal edge; the small gun barrels and antennas call for a steady hand. Apply primer, spray the paint with an airbrush and create the typical gray finish with masking. A panel wash and fine weathering will bring out the decks and the superstructures.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
