A photo-etched detail set in 1:700 scale for a model of the aircraft carrier Shandong from the manufacturer Meng. An accessory for refining a model, not a kit of the ship.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of photo-etched parts in 1:700 scale intended for a model of the aircraft carrier Shandong. It is not a kit of the ship, but an accessory: thin metal sheet with etched parts that will replace or complement those parts of the model which cannot be made fine enough in injection molded plastic.
A plastic part always has a certain minimum thickness so that it can be made and released from the mold. In 1:700 scale that means that thin structures come out many times thicker than they should be. Photo-etched sheet is a few tenths of a millimeter thick, so small structures look correctly slender. The difference is most visible against the light and in the silhouette of the superstructure.
Cut the parts out with a sharp knife against a hard surface, not with nippers — otherwise the sheet goes wavy. Level the remains of the tabs with a fine file. Make the bends in a bending tool or at least against a steel ruler, always along the etched line. Before gluing, degrease the parts with isopropyl alcohol, because neither glue nor paint holds on greasy metal. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minimal amount — put a drop on a piece of plastic and pick it up with the tip of a wire. Begin the painting with a surfacer, otherwise the paint flakes off the smooth metal. Work over a tray, as small parts like to spring away.
It is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
