An injection-molded plastic kit of the Atreides ornithopter in 1:72 scale from Meng, licensed after the film treatment of Dune. It is a large and effective model with moving features: the wings rotate, retract and unfold, and a mechanism in the fuselage allows both pairs of wings to move independently and to flap. The set offers two sets of interchangeable landing gear for the landing and the flight configuration.
The ornithopter is a helicopter-like flying machine from the world of Dune, characterized by insect wings that imitate the flight of a dragonfly. In the film world it serves for transport and for combat duties over the desert planet Arrakis.
The parts are glued with a modeling cement for plastic, while the clear cockpit parts are better bonded with super glue so that they do not go cloudy. Assemble the moving wing joints carefully and do not let glue into them. The metallic sand look of the machine comes out well with preshading and fine desert weathering with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
