1:72 Su-2 3D-Printed & coloured Interior on decal paper (ICM) (with 3D-printed resin parts)

What the set contains

A colored interior for a model of the Su-2 aircraft in 1:72 scale, prepared for the kit from ICM. The film elements are fitted onto the cockpit parts and replace laborious hand painting of the instrument panel and of the small details that would otherwise have to be shaded with a brush. The package also contains printed resin parts.

How the elements are applied

The film elements of this range are printed on backing decal paper and have no adhesive layer of their own. Cut the part out, dip it in lukewarm water for roughly fifteen seconds and slide it off the paper into place. Go over the base beforehand with a gloss varnish such as Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22, on which the element holds reliably; into corners and over raised relief a drop of cyanoacrylate helps. Fine-tune the position while the base is still damp, draw off the excess water and press the element down with a toothpick or a blunt stick. Do not use a decal softener or setter, as this chemistry attacks the printed resin.

The printed resin parts are not polystyrene and ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on them. Separate them from the print supports with a sharp blade a little away from the part, sand the marks left by the supports, wash and degrease the parts and glue them with cyanoacrylate.

The real subject

The Su-2 was a Soviet single-engine, two-seat light bomber and reconnaissance aircraft with a radial engine. It was used from 1941 on the Eastern Front. The cockpit is glazed over both crew positions, so the interior is clearly visible on a finished model and work on it pays off.
