About product

The color

A light earthy tone between ocher and khaki, named after hay. The manufacturer code with the letter C and its place in Gunze's Mr.Color lineup put it in the Mr.Color range. Per its name, it relates to the late variant of Japanese army armored vehicles, that is, the period when vehicle coats were mixed from whatever was on hand, and the shade varied from vehicle to vehicle and with the age of the surface. Which period specification or reference chart the shade is meant to match is stated in the manufacturer's color chart and materials.

How to apply the paint

Mix the contents thoroughly before use, or settled pigment will show as uneven coverage. Choose the thinner the manufacturer specifies for this range, and test the mixing ratio and pressure aside, not directly on the model. The paint is mainly intended for an airbrush; apply it with a brush only on small areas and for touch-ups. Apply several light coats rather than one heavy one, since a heavy coat buries fine surface detail and rounds off edges. The surface must be clean and degreased; the shade holds more reliably on a primer coat and comes out even.

What to do with the shade on a model

A light earthy tone looks flat on a large hull surface, so it pays to grade the shade: lighten the center of large areas slightly and let it stay darker toward the edges and in shadows. Only then come washes for the seams and dust, which shows up more clearly on a light surface than a dark one and can easily overwhelm it. Work in small amounts and wipe off excess in the direction water would have run down the vehicle.

Terms of supply

The paint alone is supplied. The model, thinner, a brush and other modeling supplies are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

With the thinner the manufacturer specifies for this range. The mixing ratio and recommended pressure are given in the instructions on the packaging.

Yes, on small areas and touch-ups. Larger areas come out more even from an airbrush in several light coats.

Per its name, for the late variant of Japanese army armored vehicles. Check specific vehicles and areas against period reference material.

A uniform light tone has no natural half-shadows at scale. Lighten the center of areas slightly, keep edges and shadows darker, and add a wash.
