Alongside its usual line, the manufacturer also runs a group of shades marked with two letters, built on a higher pigment content and a finer flow-out. The difference shows at once: the coat covers in fewer passes and dries to a genuine gloss that otherwise appears only after a clear coat. The bottle holds 18 ml, almost twice the usual package, which comes in handy on car bodies.
Of all shades, red pigments have the lowest covering power. Applied straight onto gray or dark plastic they turn brown and look dirty, no matter how many coats you put on. The classic procedure therefore starts with a white or light pink base, on which the red only then lights up. Yellow and orange shades have the same property, since their grains transmit light in a similar way. On large areas it makes sense to smooth the base and fill any scratches, because a gloss surface gives away every irregularity.
Before you let the gun loose on a car body, try the spray on a piece of scrap plastic and check the coverage. Spray thinner and rather more often than once heavily; the last coat can be laid a little wetter so that it levels itself out. After a few days of curing the surface can be polished to a mirror look with a fine compound. It is thinned with lacquer thinner from the same family; ventilate the area while working and protect your airways.
