A white with higher coverage

White pigments cover worse than any other shade, because they have nothing with which to absorb the light passing through the coat. On this paint the word super means that it contains more pigment than the basic white of the same range, so fewer coats are needed for a full tone. That helps everywhere a heavy coat would drown fine surface detail or engraved seams.

Properties and thinning

In material terms it is a solvent-based lacquer, so water-based thinners are out of the question. It can be thinned only with the thinner of the same brand, according to how the paint passes through the nozzle. The bottle holds 10 ml. The dried film is hard and smooth and takes masking tape as well as a gloss clear coat before decals.

Field of use

• Recognition stripes and bands, where the white has to cover over dark camouflage
• Light bases under yellow and red, which cover badly by themselves
• All-white schemes of trainer and demonstration machines
• Mixing lighter shades, where a strong white base is needed

Apply several light coats rather than one generous one. White tends to drown detail faster than any other shade, and once engraving is filled it never comes back.

When to reach for a different white

• For a large continuous area, choose a primer in a spray can instead, because a bottle would not be enough
• For small lettering and stripes the ordinary white is enough, since strong coverage is not needed there
• To shade white areas, add a drop of light gray, not black

An all-white model is one of the most demanding subjects of all: it has nowhere to hide unevenness in the surface and every fingerprint shows on it. It pays to work in gloves and to hold the model by its base right to the end.
