Light Aircraft Grey to the British standard BS 381C/627. A lacquer paint of 10 ml, the underside color of postwar British machines.
Responsibility details are not available.
While American shades are described by an FS number, British ones use the BS standard. The code 627 denotes the light gray that covered the undersurfaces and often whole airframes of British aircraft after the Second World War. It is neutral, with no shift toward blue, and reads noticeably cooler than the corresponding American shades.
Chemically it is a lacquer on an organic solvent, so water-based products are useless here. It can be thinned only with the brand's thinner from the same line, according to how the paint passes through the nozzle. The volume is 10 ml. The dried layer is hard and takes masking and later washes.
British and American standards are not interchangeable and shades that look similar in fact differ. On a model built to particular documentation it therefore pays to keep to the standard given in the references rather than to look for the nearest color from another system.
Light grays soiled quickly in service around access panels and beneath the engines. Subtle emphasis of these places gives a model conviction better than uniform soiling of the whole surface.
