Styrene square hollow profile 3.00 x 350 mm (3 units)

Three pieces of plastic profile with a square outer section of 3.00 mm and a length of 350 mm. Unlike a solid strip it is hollow inside, so at the same outer size it weighs less and at the same time offers space that can be used. The dimension in the name is in millimeters and gives the outer side of the square.

How it differs from a solid strip

• A wire, a lighting fiber or a thin tube can be threaded through the hollow.
• Less material means lower weight for tall structures.
• A smaller hollow profile can be slid into a larger one to make a telescopic joint.
• A square section holds a right angle by itself, which simplifies building frames.

How to cut and glue it

A hollow profile is apt to be crushed under the pressure of a knife. So cut lightly and with several passes all the way round, not with one heavy cut, or push a piece of wire or a narrower profile inside as a filler for the time of cutting. After the cut the ends are trued with a file laid flat, so that the section stays square. It is glued with thin solvent cement for plastic; with a hollow profile dose it sparingly, because an excess runs inside and can swell the surface from the outside. Glue the structure on a flat surface and check the corners with a square while the cement is setting.
