Italian Tank Crew Highlights

Italian Tank Crew Highlights — a Vallejo Panzer Aces acrylic paint

One bottle of acrylic modeling paint from the Panzer Aces range by the Spanish brand Vallejo; there are no figures in the package. The range is built in pairs of a base shade and its brightened counterpart with the suffix Highlights. The lighter shades also work well as a glaze, with which the tone is shifted in layers instead of by one covering coat.

Use

• Mix a glaze with markedly thinned paint. The aim is a translucent layer that only shifts the tone, not covers it.
• Build up in layers and let them dry between coats. Three weak glazes give a smoother transition than one attempt at a finished result.
• Keep thinned paint under control. Excess on the brush runs into the recesses and makes a stain you then have to repaint.
• Neat acrylic dries quickly, and on a palette even faster. Work in small amounts or use a wet palette.
• Before you move on to decals, patina or a protective varnish, let the layers dry right through, not merely flash off.
• Choose an acrylic protective varnish or one that will not attack the acrylic layer beneath; an aggressive lacquer thinner can dissolve fresh acrylic.

Who it is for

For modelers of figures and of the crews of military vehicles who work in layers and want a brightening shade ready. If you are building a whole scheme, it makes sense to add the corresponding base shade of the range as well.

An acrylic paint thinnable with water. Work in a ventilated space, and use a respirator and extraction when spraying. Keep out of the reach of children and close the bottle after taking paint out.
