PRIMARY AND COMPLEMENTARY COLORS SET

Six shades from which a whole palette arises

The basis of this selection is the trio of pure colors Primary Red, Primary Blue and Primary Yellow. Added to them are Orange, Deep Green and Dark Violet, that is the shades which lie between the primaries and complement them. Anyone who mixes his own tones has most of the color wheel covered by this selection and does not have to buy dozens of bottles.

Why these six in particular

Practically anything can be mixed from three pure colors, but the result tends to be grayed down. Ready-made orange, green and violet shades save work where the tone is to be saturated: warning signs, uniform facings, the finishes of civilian vehicles or fantastical cloaks. Combining pairs, by contrast, produces the muted tones that suit shadows.

Application

An acrylic paint will take a brush as well as an airbrush. Shake the bottle before thinning, so that the pigment settled at the bottom is lifted. For a brush, water or the appropriate thinning medium will do; for an airbrush it is better to add it gradually, a drop at a time, until the paint begins to run off a spatula in a continuous trail.
